Bagar is in Jhunjhunu District in Rajasthan, part of the Shekhawati region. The area is known for its merchant families and for the painted havelis they built in their home towns. The land is dry and open, and from above the town appears as a close-knit cluster in a wide, sparse landscape.
The older part of Bagar has the tight, irregular lanes typical of Shekhawati towns, where houses were built around inner courtyards and pressed close together. Newer growth spreads more loosely along the roads that lead toward neighbouring towns.
