Baiersbronn is in the northern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg, and by area it is one of the largest municipalities in the state. It isn't one compact town. On the map it appears as a series of villages and hamlets along several valleys, with the upper Murg as the main one, all separated by large areas of forest.
Roads follow the valley floors, and the villages string out along them in narrow bands, with steep wooded slopes above. Baiersbronn is also known well beyond the region for its restaurants, as several highly decorated Michelin-starred kitchens have made this rural area a destination for food lovers.
