Baiquan Map Poster & Print
Baiquan lies in western Heilongjiang, on flat land at the edge of the vast northeastern plains of China. On a map the town is a compact, fairly regular grid of wide streets surrounded by farmland that runs almost to the horizon. The fields are large and rectangular, so even the countryside reads as geometry.
The name Baiquan is usually translated as 'hundred springs', a reference to the water found in the area. Low-lying streams and wetlands wind through the surrounding plain, and their soft curves contrast with the straight roads and field boundaries. Winters here are long and cold, and the landscape is dedicated mainly to grain farming.
A Baiquan map poster works through contrast. The built-up grid forms a tight block of ink at the centre, and around it the thinner lines of rural roads and field edges spread out in every direction. It is a minimal, balanced image of a northern farming town.
