Road-side settlement
Homes and clusters of buildings follow the main tracks, so the map shows the settlement as a set of lines rather than one dense block.

Bakwa Map Poster & Print
Bakwa is in Haut-Uele province, in the far northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a region of wooded savanna and gallery forest drained by the Uele river system. Settlements here tend to spread along roads rather than cluster in a dense centre, and on a map that shows up as long lines of habitation with fields and woodland in between.
The street network is informal and loosely drawn. Unpaved roads link homesteads, markets and neighbouring villages, and small streams wind through the surrounding land. Areas of cleared ground and cultivation alternate with trees, giving the landscape a patchwork look when seen from above.
A Bakwa map poster is less about monuments than about pattern: roads following ridges, paths branching out to farms, water tracing the low ground. In black and white, those faint lines become a quiet, honest portrait of a place that rarely appears on printed maps.

Uele basin
The surrounding land drains toward the Uele river system, and small watercourses thread through the countryside around the town.
Savanna patchwork
Cleared fields, woodland and open ground alternate around the settlement, a loose texture that gives the poster its character.
