Baliguda is a town in Kandhamal district in the interior of Odisha, set in hilly, heavily forested country. From above, the town occupies a pocket of flatter ground, and its streets gather around the main roads. Beyond them, the land rises into wooded hills crossed by only a few winding routes.
Kandhamal is one of Odisha's most forested and least urbanised districts, with a large Kondh tribal population, and Baliguda serves as an administrative and market centre for a wide rural area. Its layout reflects that role: a practical cluster of streets tied to roads that thread through the hills.
