Bang Kapi lies on the eastern side of Bangkok, well away from the river bends of the old city. A few broad arteries organise its map, among them Ramkhamhaeng and Lat Phrao roads, and countless narrow sois branch off them like the teeth of a comb. Between these lanes the blocks are small and irregular, the result of growth that followed old plots and waterways.
Khlong Saen Saep, one of the city's best-known canals, runs through the district, and commuter boats still use it to reach central Bangkok. On a map the canal is a thin, determined line cutting through the street pattern.
