Banī Suhaylā lies in the southern Gaza Strip, just east of Khan Yunis, on the low coastal plain that slopes gently towards the Mediterranean. On a map the town merges almost seamlessly with its larger neighbour. Its streets form a dense but irregular pattern around an older core, and the buildings spread out along the roads that lead further inland.
East of the town, the map traditionally showed a patchwork of small agricultural plots, greenhouses and orchards reaching towards the eastern boundary of the Strip. The land is flat and sandy, with no rivers, so the pattern comes mainly from roads, field divisions and the gradual thinning of buildings as the town gives way to farmland.
