Barrinha is a municipality in the interior of São Paulo state, in the agricultural region around Ribeirão Preto. Like many towns in this part of Brazil, it developed in close connection with farming, and the landscape around it is dominated by large, orderly fields, much of it sugarcane. From above, the countryside looks like a patchwork of broad, geometric parcels.
The town itself is compact and fairly regular, with streets forming a grid of rectangular blocks that expands outward from the older centre. Newer residential areas extend the pattern at the edges, and a few main roads connect Barrinha to neighbouring towns and the regional highway network. The result is a tidy, legible plan.
