Bécédi-Brignan lies in the Lagunes District of southern Ivory Coast, inland from Abidjan and away from the coastal lagoons that give the district its name. On a map the town is modest in size: a central cluster of streets around the main road, with houses and compounds spreading outward into the surrounding green.
The countryside here is humid, wooded and widely cultivated, and the road network reflects that. Beyond the town the lines become fewer and thinner, tracing routes between villages and farms rather than forming blocks. The contrast between the denser centre and this open rural web is what gives the drawing its shape.
