Befandriana, often called Befandriana-Avaratra, is a town in the Sofia region of northern Madagascar. It sits inland, in a landscape of low hills, grassland and river valleys where rice is grown on the flatter ground. On a map the town is small and compact, with its streets gathered around a centre and a network of routes reaching out toward the surrounding rural communes.
The layout is simple and practical: a main road through town, secondary streets branching from it, and residential areas thinning out toward the edges. Rice paddies and streams fill the low-lying land nearby, creating a patchwork of small plots. The town serves as a district centre, so roads and tracks converge here from villages across a wide area.
