Ben Mehidi is a town in El Tarf Province, in the far northeast of Algeria. It sits on the low coastal plain east of Annaba. Its name honours Larbi Ben M'hidi, a leader of the war of independence. On a map, the town appears as a compact settlement of streets surrounded by cultivated fields and drainage channels.
The plain around it is shaped by water. Rivers cross the flat land on their way to the Mediterranean, and further east lie the lakes and wetlands of El Kala National Park. Within the town, the streets follow a fairly practical layout, and main roads run through it toward neighbouring towns along the coast.
