Purus confluence
The Purus meets the Solimões near the town, and the joining of two great rivers gives the map its dominant shapes and a strong sense of scale.

Beruri Map Poster & Print
Beruri lies in the state of Amazonas, near the point where the Purus river flows into the Solimões, the name used for the upper Amazon in Brazil. From above, the landscape is dominated by water: broad river channels, oxbow lakes and seasonally flooded land, with the town occupying a small stretch of higher bank.
As in much of the Amazon, rivers are the main roads here. Boats connect Beruri to Manaus and to communities up the Purus, and the town's life follows the rise and fall of the water through the year. The Purus is one of the major tributaries of the Amazon, known for its winding course.
A Beruri map poster is less about streets than about the relationship between a small grid and very large rivers. In black and white, the curves of the water and the thin line of the settlement create a striking, almost abstract composition.

Meanders and lakes
Winding channels, cut-off lakes and flooded land surround the area, drawing loops and curves across the map in every direction.
Riverbank town
The town's small street grid sits along the bank, a compact human mark set against the wide sweep of water around it.
