Besbes lies in El Tarf province, in the low plain south-east of Annaba, not far from Algeria's Mediterranean coast. From above, the town is a tight cluster of streets set within a patchwork of fields, with roads leaving it in straight lines toward neighbouring towns. Because the land is so flat, the street plan reads clearly, with little terrain to bend it.
The lowland around the town is farming country, watered by rivers that come down from the hills to the south on their way to the sea. On the map this appears as long field boundaries and scattered farm tracks, a rural texture that frames the denser core of the town and gives it a clearly defined edge.
