Bhānpurī is a town on the central plain of Chhattisgarh, a state often called the rice bowl of India. The surrounding land is flat and mostly under paddy, and its field boundaries form a fine mesh across the map, interrupted by roads and scattered villages.
The town itself is compact. Lanes gather around a central area and then reach outward toward nearby villages. Like many settlements in the region, it has village tanks, small ponds dug to hold monsoon rain, which show up on the map as rounded shapes among the houses and fields.
