Biguaçu lies in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, on the mainland just north of Florianópolis and part of its metropolitan area. From above, the town stretches along the BR-101 highway and the shores of the bay that separates the mainland from Santa Catarina Island. A river winds through the lowland toward the coast.
The landscape around Biguaçu mixes low coastal plains, mangroves and wooded hills that rise inland. Newer neighbourhoods have spread along the highway as the Florianópolis region has grown. Older areas sit closer to the river and the shore, and hillside roads climb into greener, less densely built ground to the west.
