Bloomfield is a compact township in Essex County, and from above it looks like part of one continuous suburban fabric stretching from Newark towards the hills. The streets form a mix of short grids and older radial roads, most of which lead to the historic town centre. There are no natural edges; the borders with Newark, Glen Ridge, Montclair and Nutley are drawn only by where the street names change.
The Garden State Parkway cuts through the township from north to south, and its broad curve with interchanges is the strongest line on the map. Near the centre is Bloomfield Green, an open space surrounded by older buildings that marks the colonial-era heart of the town. Bloomfield College is next to it. Brookdale Park, shared with Montclair, adds a large green oval on the north side.
A Bloomfield map poster shows a town that feels close to New York but keeps its own centre. The Third River runs through in a narrow green corridor, and the path of the old Morris Canal can still be traced in parts of the street pattern. The parkway runs through the township as a wide ribbon with ramps and overpasses, splitting the street grid in two. It is the clearest structural line on the poster.
Brookdale Park
A large county park on the Montclair border, with fields and loop paths. It shows up as a big green area among dense residential blocks.
