Bolingbrook is a village southwest of Chicago, mostly in Will County, that grew rapidly after its incorporation in 1965. Its map is typical of postwar American suburbs and unusually clear: curving residential streets, loops and cul-de-sacs fill large tracts between a handful of straight arterial roads. Interstate 55 crosses the village on a diagonal, the longest and most direct line in the whole composition.
Between the neighbourhoods sit parks, school grounds, ponds and golf courses, which appear as open shapes among the housing. Commercial areas cluster along the main corridors and near the interstate interchanges. Clow International Airport, a small general aviation field in the south of the village, adds a straight runway to a street plan that is otherwise almost entirely made of curves.
