Borūjen stands on a high plateau in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, one of the most elevated provinces in Iran. Because the land around it is broad and level, the town spreads out easily. Its main avenues run straight, and the blocks are fairly regular. The ridges of the Zagros keep their distance at the horizon rather than hemming the streets in.
The altitude brings long, cold winters, and Borūjen is often mentioned among the coldest towns in the country. On the map, that climate is behind the wide farmland and grazing ground around the edges, where planning follows the seasons. Roads leave the town in several directions across the plateau toward Isfahan, Shahrekord and the southern valleys.
The county around Borūjen also includes highland wetlands that draw migrating birds, a reminder that the plateau is not as dry as it looks from a distance.
