Bou Tlelis lies in Oran province in north-western Algeria, inland from the coast and south-west of the city of Oran. The countryside here is broad and fairly flat, divided into cultivated fields, and the town sits within that landscape as a compact grid of streets.
From above, the contrast is simple and effective: a dense cluster of short blocks, and long straight roads leading out across the plain toward neighbouring towns. The wider area includes the large salt flat known as the Sebkha of Oran, a reminder of how open and low this part of the region is.
