Brotas lies in the interior of São Paulo state, in rolling country of farms, woodland and rivers. On a map the town shows a neat grid of blocks centred on its main square. It sits alongside the Jacaré-Pepira River, which winds through the urban area and gives the otherwise regular street plan a flowing edge.
