Buckley sits on a low upland in Flintshire, northeast Wales, a few miles from the English border and not far from Mold. From above, the town has no single compact centre but a spread of streets and housing estates linked by main roads. Fields, woodland and old industrial sites fill the gaps between districts.
The town's history is tied to its clay. For centuries Buckley was known for pottery and later for bricks and other clay products, and old pits and workings left their mark on the landscape. Many of those sites are now nature reserves or green space, which shows up on the map as open patches among the streets.
