Bugaragara lies in Rwanda's Eastern Province, in the lower, drier country of the north-east, where the hills are gentler than in the west of the country and the land opens toward wide horizons. On a map, the settlement is a loose cluster of homesteads and lanes, connected to its surroundings by a network of dirt roads and footpaths.
