Camacupa is in Bié province, on the central plateau of Angola. The town is often associated with the geographic centre of the country, which lies in the surrounding area. On a map, it is a modest settlement with a compact core of streets and wider residential areas spreading out onto open highland.
The Benguela Railway runs through the town, and its straight line is one of the most prominent features on the map. The railway links Camacupa with the Atlantic coast to the west and the interior to the east. Roads leading out from the centre connect with Kuito, the provincial capital, and with villages across the plateau.
