The Central Coast of New South Wales lies between Sydney and Newcastle, with the Hawkesbury River at its southern edge. On the map it does not look like one city at all. It is a series of towns spread around large coastal lakes, a long line of beaches and national parks. Areas of forested land sit between the built-up districts.
Gosford sits at the northern end of Brisbane Water, a large estuary. Further north, Tuggerah Lake and Lake Macquarie sit behind the dunes, while towns like Terrigal and The Entrance face the Pacific. Bouddi National Park covers a rugged stretch of coast in the south. Many residents commute to Sydney by train.
