Chapel Allerton lies a few kilometres north of Leeds city centre, on higher ground along the main road toward Harrogate. It began as a separate village and was absorbed into the city as it grew, and its centre still has the feel of a village high street, with shops, cafés and bars gathered around a few junctions.
On the map, the area is a mix of textures: rows of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, larger older houses on winding roads, and later estates further out. Green valleys run along both sides, with Meanwood to the west and Gledhow to the east, while Potternewton Park lies just to the south.
