Cherry Hill is a community in Prince William County, Virginia, on the western shore of the Potomac River south of Washington, D.C. It lies near the town of Dumfries and within the busy corridor of Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1, which link northern Virginia with the capital and the south. The river and its tidal creeks give the area a clear natural edge.
On a map the Potomac shoreline and the creeks feeding into it frame the area. Residential neighbourhoods spread across the higher ground in curving streets and cul-de-sacs, typical of suburban Virginia, while wooded land and wetlands follow the water. A rail line runs near the river, and the major highways pass to the west, forming long parallel lines.
