Chidawa is a town in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, part of the Shekhawati region in the semi-arid north of the state. The surrounding land is flat and open, and from above the town appears as a dense centre of narrow lanes with roads radiating out toward nearby villages and the larger towns of the district.
Shekhawati is widely known for its painted havelis, the mansions built by merchant families and decorated with murals, and the towns of this region share a similar plan: a compact bazaar core, courtyard houses packed close together, and a looser fringe where streets widen and give way to farmland. Chidawa follows that pattern in its own way.
