Chīka, often written Cheeka, lies in the Kaithal district of northern Haryana, close to the border with Punjab. The surrounding land is flat, intensively farmed plain, and the map reflects this: roads and field boundaries run in long, straight lines, and the town appears as a compact, denser knot where several of these routes meet.
Within the town, the street pattern is tighter and more irregular, with narrow lanes around the older market area and newer colonies laid out on straighter lines at the edges. Market yards form larger open shapes in the fabric, and irrigation channels draw thin, precise lines across the countryside beyond.
This is wheat and rice country, part of the agricultural belt that runs across Haryana and Punjab, and the town's life follows the harvest calendar, with the market busiest after each crop comes in.
