Chinnamanūr is a town in Theni district, in western Tamil Nadu. It lies in the fertile valley that runs toward the Western Ghats and the Kerala border. Irrigation from rivers fed by the mountains supports intensive farming, and the wider valley is known for rice, coconut, bananas and grapes. The town is a market centre on the main road through the valley.
From above, Chinnamanūr is a compact settlement with a dense core of streets and temple lanes, surrounded by an intricate mosaic of irrigated fields. Canals and channels run through the farmland, and the main road passes straight through the town. The Western Ghats close off the valley to the west, which gives the whole area a sheltered, enclosed feel.
