Chotila lies in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, on the main highway between Ahmedabad and Rajkot. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets set against the flat, dry country of the peninsula. The highway runs past it as a strong straight line, with roadside development strung out along its length.
The defining feature of the map is the hill. Chotila hill rises steeply beside the town, an isolated height in otherwise open land, and its rounded outline stands out clearly among the fields and streets. A long stairway climbs to the top, and the town's lanes gather towards its base.
At the summit stands the temple of Chamunda Mata, one of the best-known pilgrimage sites in Saurashtra, visited by large numbers of devotees who climb the steps to the top.
