Colonial Heights Map Poster & Print
Colonial Heights is an independent city in Virginia, just north of Petersburg across the Appomattox River. The river forms its southern edge and is the most prominent natural feature on the map, a wide band with bridges linking the two cities. From there, streets spread north over gently rolling ground, mostly in the looser, curving pattern of twentieth-century residential neighbourhoods.
Interstate 95 runs north–south through the city, and the retail areas along the Boulevard and around Southpark Mall follow its corridor. The area also has Civil War history: during the siege of Petersburg, Confederate commander Robert E. Lee used a house at Violet Bank as his headquarters for a period. Swift Creek and its lake shape the northern part of the city.
