Crimmitschau is a town in western Saxony, near Zwickau, in the valley of the Pleiße river. For generations it was known as a textile town, and its mills and workers' housing shaped its growth. The river runs through the centre, with the town spreading up the slopes on each side.
Crimmitschau is also remembered for the textile workers' strike of 1903 and 1904, which lasted several months. It was one of the major labour disputes of imperial Germany, centred on the demand for a ten-hour working day. Former factory sites along the river still reflect this industrial past.
