Dekoa lies in the Kémo prefecture of the Central African Republic, on the road that runs north from Sibut toward Kaga-Bandoro. From above, the town takes its shape from that route. Houses and compounds line both sides, and a looser network of paths spreads out from the main road into the surrounding land.
The country around Dekoa is a mix of savanna, woodland and small farm plots. There are no large rivers or hills that restrict the town, so the edges of the built-up area are soft, and houses thin out gradually into fields. On a map, the result is a clear central axis with a fine, irregular pattern on either side.
