Demba is a town in the Kasai-Central province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, west of the provincial capital Kananga. It lies on the broad plateau of the Kasai region, where grassland alternates with strips of forest along the streams. From above, the town is a modest pattern of streets and compounds, with dirt roads leading out toward surrounding villages.
The layout is simple and practical. A handful of main roads carry most of the traffic, and the side streets form an open, loosely organised pattern that thins out at the edges into fields and garden plots. Beyond the town, the valleys of small rivers cut dark, wooded lines through the plateau and give the wider landscape a strong natural structure.
