Dharmapuram is a locality in Kanyakumari district, near the southern tip of India, in the green country around Nagercoil. This is one of the wettest and most fertile parts of Tamil Nadu, where the landscape mixes coconut groves, paddy fields, water tanks and low hills, with the Western Ghats rising not far to the north.
From above, the settlement pattern is closer in feel to Kerala than to the drier plains further north. Lanes wind between homesteads and gardens, clustering more densely along the main roads, and settlements often run continuously into one another. Ponds and irrigation tanks appear as distinctive open shapes within the network.
