Domchānch sits on the Chota Nagpur plateau in Koderma district, in the north of Jharkhand. From above it is a modest settlement: a handful of main roads converging on a central market area, with lanes branching into residential clusters and then quickly giving way to fields, tanks and scattered wooded rises.
The wider district is known for mica, which was mined in this part of India for well over a century and shaped the economy of towns across the belt. The land around Domchānch has the uneven, broken texture typical of the plateau, and on a map that appears as irregular field patterns rather than a neat grid.
