Drochia is a town in northern Moldova and the administrative centre of the district of the same name. It sits in the rolling agricultural country of the north, between the Prut and Dniester river valleys, where large fields stretch between towns and villages. The railway played a major role in its development, and the line still runs along the town.
The map shows a town with a fairly regular structure: straight streets forming rectangular blocks, a central area with public buildings and green spaces, and residential districts of detached houses with long gardens. Industrial sites, including the sugar factory long associated with the town, sit near the railway, while ponds and small reservoirs appear in the nearby valleys.
