Ede Map Poster
Ede is one of the older towns of Yorubaland, seat of the Timi of Ede, and its layout follows a familiar Yoruba pattern: a dense core of houses and compounds around the palace and markets, with roads radiating outwards to neighbouring towns. The street network is organic rather than planned, and on a map it forms a web that thins gradually into farmland and scrub.
The Osun River, sacred in Yoruba tradition, flows past the town, its course marked by a corridor of trees. The railway from Lagos to the north also passes through Ede, cutting a long, gentle line across the street pattern. Between river and railway, older neighbourhoods and newer residential areas fill the ground, and roads lead out to Osogbo, the state capital, a short drive away.
Ede is also a university town, home to the Federal Polytechnic Ede and to private universities, whose campuses add larger open plots to the edges of the map.
