Elmadağ is a district town in Ankara Province, east of the capital on the road toward Kırıkkale. It takes its name from the mountain of Elmadağ, which rises nearby and is one of the high points around Ankara. On a map the town appears as a compact settlement set against rising ground, with open steppe stretching away beyond it.
The street pattern mixes older, irregular lanes near the centre with newer apartment blocks laid out on straighter lines. Roads curve where the land slopes. A main highway and a railway line pass close to the town, carrying traffic between Ankara and central Anatolia, and their long, steady lines give the composition a strong horizontal structure.
The mountain has a ski area that draws people from Ankara in winter, making Elmadağ one of the nearest places to the capital for snow sports.
