Entre Rios lies in the state of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil, inland from the Atlantic coast north of Salvador. Its name means between rivers, and it describes the setting well: the town sits in country cut by watercourses, and on a map the drainage lines and low valleys shape where streets could spread and where they had to stop.
