Figuil lies in the North Region of Cameroon, not far from the border with Chad, in a landscape of dry savanna broken by rocky hills. From above, the town forms a loose cluster of streets around a main road, with open land and scattered rock outcrops beyond its edges.
The town is known for its cement works, which draw on local limestone deposits and give Figuil an industrial role unusual for a settlement of its size in the region. The main road linking Garoua toward the north passes nearby, and the town's street pattern gathers along this route.
