Galesburg Map Poster & Print
Galesburg is a railway town on the open prairie of western Illinois. Its map is shaped by two forces: a regular street grid and the railway. Several main lines meet here, and the large classification yard on the edge of town appears as a long band of parallel tracks. The yard is one of the most striking features of the whole map.
The town grew up around Knox College, whose campus still sits near the centre. Old Main, on the campus, hosted one of the Lincoln–Douglas debates in 1858. Galesburg is also the birthplace of the poet Carl Sandburg, and the small cottage where he was born is preserved as a historic site.
