From above, it is a mix of dense clusters of houses, winding lanes and open ground, where the urban area of the steel city gradually gives way to fields and low forested hills. Roads connect it to Jamshedpur's larger districts nearby.
The surrounding region is part of the Chota Nagpur plateau, with undulating terrain, rocky outcrops and the Subarnarekha river basin nearby. That landscape shows on the map as irregular gaps between settled areas, with streets following the shape of the ground rather than any overall grid.
