Golders Green grew rapidly after the Northern line reached it in 1907, turning fields into one of London's early Tube suburbs. Its map centres on the crossroads where Finchley Road meets Golders Green Road and North End Road, with the station and bus terminus beside it. From there, residential streets of semi-detached houses spread out in curves and cul-de-sacs.
To the south and east, green space dominates. Golders Hill Park and the Hampstead Heath Extension form broad open areas on the map, and Hampstead Garden Suburb begins just beyond. Golders Green Crematorium, opened in 1902, is the resting place of many well-known figures. The area has also long been home to one of London's largest Jewish communities.
