Goygol Map Poster & Print
Goygol lies just south of Ganja in western Azerbaijan, where the plain begins to rise toward the Lesser Caucasus. The town was founded in 1819 by German settlers from Württemberg as Helenendorf, and their plan is still visible on the map: long parallel streets crossed at right angles, a rare regular layout in the region.
The settlers became known for viticulture, and vineyards and orchards once surrounded the colony. Today the town takes its name from Lake Göygöl, a mountain lake formed by a landslide in the twelfth century that lies higher up in the mountains to the south, within a national park.
A Goygol map poster shows the colonial grid on the valley floor, with roads climbing south into forested mountains. It tells a layered story in simple lines: a nineteenth-century village plan, the farmland around it, and the wilder country beyond.
