Grande Prairie Map Poster & Print
Grande Prairie lies in the Peace Region of northwestern Alberta. It is built mainly on a grid of numbered streets and avenues, typical of western Canadian cities. What breaks that grid is Bear Creek, which winds through the middle of the city in a wooded valley. The creek corridor has been preserved as Muskoseepi Park, a long ribbon of trails and green space.
Around the older centre, newer neighbourhoods spread out in curving crescents, and highways, including Highway 43 and Highway 40, frame the city with commercial strips. Beyond the edges the land opens into large, square fields of grain and canola laid out on the survey grid, with the boreal forest further north and west.
A Grande Prairie map poster balances order and nature. The rectangular grid and the right-angled farm roads are softened by the meandering creek valley and the lakes around the city. Near Wembley, west of town, the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum reflects the region's rich fossil beds.
