Grootfontein Map Poster
Grootfontein, meaning great spring in Afrikaans, lies in the Otjozondjupa Region of north-eastern Namibia. Together with Tsumeb and Otavi it forms the area known as the Otavi triangle, a relatively green and well-watered part of the country. From above, the town has the broad, orderly layout of many Namibian centres, with wide streets and generous plots.
The history of the town is visible in the old fort, the Alte Feste, built during the German colonial period and now a museum. Grootfontein is also the nearest town to the Hoba meteorite, which lies on a farm to the west and is the largest known meteorite on Earth.
A Grootfontein map poster shows the regular blocks of the centre, the residential areas around them and the main roads heading north toward Rundu and the Kavango. The sharp edge where the grid ends and the open bush begins is one of the clearest features of the frame.

Main roads leave Grootfontein toward Rundu and the north-east, as well as south toward Otavi. The long straight lines stretch across the map beyond the town edge.
