Gryfice lies in West Pomerania, where the Rega river winds north toward the Baltic. The town grew up on its banks in the Middle Ages, and the oval outline of that early settlement is still easy to read from above. Streets inside the old core are short and closely packed, while newer districts spread outward in looser blocks, so the map has a clear centre.
Parts of the medieval fortifications survive, including the Stone Gate and the Powder Tower. The line of the former walls still shapes the streets that curve around the historic centre, and the Gothic church of St Mary rises inside that ring. A Gryfice map poster shows these layers clearly: a dense core, a ring of streets that follow the old defences, and the river bending past.
Gryfice is also known for its railway. For decades it was a hub of the Pomeranian narrow-gauge network, and reminders of that era remain in the town.
