Guajará is a municipality in the far southwest of Amazonas state in Brazil, near the border with Acre. It lies in the basin of the Juruá river, one of the long, winding tributaries of the Amazon. The town is small, and on the map it appears as a short grid of streets surrounded by forest on all sides.
In this part of the Amazon, rivers are the main routes of travel, and the map reflects that. Winding channels, cut-off meanders and oxbow lakes cover the lowland. The regional centre of Cruzeiro do Sul, in Acre, lies nearby, and a road links the two towns through the forest.
A Guajará map poster is unusual because nature dominates the composition. The town is only a small cluster, and the looping forms of the rivers carry most of the drawing. The fluid lines make it an elegant, almost abstract print in any of the styles.
