Guchang is a town in the western part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country of the eastern Sichuan Basin. From above, it is a compact settlement set among rounded hills, with roads curving around slopes and small reservoirs and terraced fields spread across the surrounding land.
The landscape here is famous for its density of cultivation: nearly every hillside is farmed, and ponds and small reservoirs fill the hollows between them. Towns like Guchang serve as local markets for the villages around them, and their streets tend to fit into the land instead of cutting straight through it.
